There are many excellent piano rolls which have never been recut and many more which were recut years ago in limited numbers and quickly went back out of production. I strive to help make the best of these available again for collectors.
My rolls are manufactured by the experts at Custom Music Rolls in Richardson, Texas (you can see photos of this operation in the MMD archives; MMD is discussed on my links page). They are copied in their entirety (unedited) from original master rolls. A single "proof copy" is punched and checked against the original to assure that no errors occur during the copying process, after which the production copies are perforated onto dry-wax paper. The paper is trimmed at the same instant that the music perforations are made which guarantees that the spacing of all holes from one edge of the paper to the other is perfect and minimizes any chance of mistracking on your piano.
The roll is placed in an attractive two-piece paper wrapped box. A copy of the original roll label is always placed on one end of the roll box (if an original exists!). On the other end of the box you will find my own label, which I am proud to say includes as much information about the roll as is known: title, composer, pianist, date of the roll or composition, and original roll label and number. Nobody else supplies such complete information on the piano roll label! You will find samples of my labels in the enclosed list.
Another feature of BluesTone Music Rolls is the inclusion of a lyric sheet with every word roll recut. These lyric sheets are copied directly from the original roll and explain when the introduction is two bars long versus four bars, where there is a vamp before the next verse begins, where instrumental verses and choruses occur, and so forth so you won't get lost trying to follow along with the roll. In most cases the ability to follow the original lyrics while listening to a roll greatly enhances the listening pleasure. I feel this is the only practical way to include lyrics with rolls produced in relatively small quantities without adding to the cost of the roll, and it means that you will find lyrics with every word roll recut on the BluesTone label!
Finally, photocopies of the original sheet music appear with every rag roll if the composition has not been reprinted in a modern ragtime folio, and if the original sheet can be located.
Shipping:
For shipments within the U.S. send $5.00 for the first roll, and $.50 for each additional roll. If you order six or more rolls, shipping (in U.S.) is free.
For all shipments outside the U.S. send $6.00 for the first roll and $1.50 for each additional roll (for surface parcel post). If you order six or more rolls, cut these shipping rates in half.
Shipments outside of North America will go via M-bag and typically take around 5 - 6 weeks to arrive.
Payment:
Please send a check payable in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank. Make checks payable to Robert DeLand! Unfortunately I cannot accept VISA or Mastercard payments at this time.
Ordering:
Prices vary by the length of the roll, but most start at $12 for individual tunes or $15 for longer rolls (occasionally two shorter rolls reissued together). Most reproducing rolls are more due to the length of the roll. You may print out a handy order form to simplify your ordering. If you would like to send me your order by email, I will try to have it ready to ship when your payment arrives.
