Capitol "A" Roll #2077 $50
GOOD NEWS: this roll is BACK IN STOCK!

My favorite "A" rolls are the later Capitol popular rolls (numbering around #1700 and above), especially all-blues rolls. That is precisely what we have here! All tunes possibly played by James Blythe or Clarence Johnson unless otherwise noted.

Tune #1: Dizzy Blues (composer unknown)
Tune #2: One Sweet Letter From You (Harry Warren) / played by Charlie Garland
Tune #3: Mississippi Blues (composer unknown)
Tune #4: Sunset Mama (composer unknown)
Tune #5: You've Got Those Wanna Go Back Again Blues (composer unknown)
Tune #6: Shorty George Blues (George W. Thomas)
Tune #7: Dixie Dreams Blues (composer unknown)
Tune #8: Crying With The Blues (composer unknown)
Tune #9: Blue Kentucky Blues (composer unknown)
Tune #10: Joe Turner Blues (W. C. Handy)

This roll surfaced in 1997, and I was able to have it recut in its original 65-note A roll format. These 10 tunes are all excellent examples of the early 1920's Chicago blues piano style associated with the Capitol Music Roll Co. and its star arrangers, including James Blythe and Clarence Johnson.

Columbia "A" Roll #1670 "None Bluer" $50

This Columbia roll appeared in their May 1922 bulletin. Three of the tunes were also issued as 88-note rolls on Columbia and/or Supertone. All are terrific arrangements.

Tune #3: I Wonder Blues
Tune #4: Muscle Shoals Blues

Tune #6: Vampin' Liza Jane
Tune #7: Lonesome Mama Blues (same as Columbia #324 88n roll played by Paul Jones?)
Tune #8: Cry Baby Blues
Tune #9: Whistling Blues
Tune #10: I'm Just Too Mean To Cry

Cremona "A" Roll #688 $50
GOOD NEWS: this roll is BACK IN STOCK!

Cremona was one of the earliest coin piano manufacturers, and it is believed their rolls were cut by the QRS coin-op division (Later Clark Music Roll Co.). This is an early roll (as you can tell by the rag titles) with some great arrangements.

Tune #1: Sweet And Pretty Rag
Tune #2: Clarinet Blues
Tune #3: He's My Lovin' Jelly Roll
Tune #4: I've Got The Blue Ridge Blues
Tune #5: Bone Dry Rag
Tune #6: Why Shouldn't Old Solomon Get the Blues
Tune #7: Cassandra
Tune #8: Hooking Cow Blues
Tune #9: Black Mascot
Tune #10: Alimony Blues

My good friend Carl Lambie has made an important niche for himself cutting specialty rolls of several types, including A, G and H rolls. Carl's quality is excellent, with the same clean, sharp punching and accurate results you have come to expect from Janet Tonnesen and her Custom Music Rolls 88-note rolls. Carl is a very busy man, but he agreed to run these for me between his many other projects and I am very pleased to offer them to you. Thank you, Carl!

NOTE: The numerals preceeding each of the above selections were scanned from Automatic Expression Roll XP-22, issued ca. 1918. They're nice and big so you can see them while you scroll quickly through this page.
I hope you like them!
